Dr Kerith Duncanson is an Accredited Practising Dietitian with more than 30 years of dietetics experience – in the private and public health sectors.
Kerith consults with clients from across the country via video, specifically people with gut health issues. This consulting work complements Kerith’s work as a digestive health dietitian and researcher.
Kerith also actively supports and mentors the Help Yourself dietetics team who consult throughout the Mid North Coast of NSW. She had worked for 20 years on the Mid North Coast as a private practice dietitian and Community Nutritionist before completing a PhD in 2015.
Kerith has published extensively and is the author of these peer-reviewed publications. Kerith is available for clinic appointments in Newcastle and gastro dietetics video consultations.
Kerith is currently a Senior Research Fellow in Gastrointestinal Nutrition at The University of Newcastle, focusing on understanding the relationship between food, gut health and gastrointestinal health and disorder.
Kerith brings 30 years of dietetics experience and extensive digestive health research to our team. She specialises in disorders of gut-brain interactions (DGBI), specifically conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, functional dyspepsia and functional constipation. Other speciality areas include dietary management of SIBO (and IMO), Crohn’s disease, diverticular disease, gastric motility issues including gastroparesis, dumping syndrome and resection syndrome (LARS).
Kerith combines evidence-based dietary management principles with real-world expertise to resolve complex, longstanding gut symptoms like diarrhoea, constipation, bloating, wind and abdominal pain. Kerith works with clients to increase their food range, enjoyment and nutritional adequacy, and overcome food avoidance and restriction that is often accompanies gastrointestinal conditions.
Although now consulting and researching mainly in the digestive diseases and disorders, Dr Duncanson gained her PhD in paediatrics, specifically child feeding and nutrition. With this combined skillset, Kerith also works with families that include children with bowel issues such as constipation, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and related toileting challenges that may or may not be related to other diagnoses or health issues.
